Charity Collections: What are the Rules?
Tuesday 19 October 2010
Charity collections are a great way for charities to raise extra money for their good work. You may have been involved in carrying out a collection of either cash or goods, including clothes, for your favourite good cause. But what is the best way for charities to do this? What are the rules which cover this sort of fundraising?
One of the Institute’s Codes of Fundraising Practice currently out to consultation is the house-to-house Code. The Codes exist to demonstrate to fundraisers best practice standards in many different fundraising techniques.
This particular Code sets out the rules for all of the different ways in which charities collect house-to-house, whether this is through cash or clothes collections. Clothes collections can be run both by charities in-house and third party commercial organisations.
Perhaps you have been involved in a charity collection in this past, and have some specific feedback that you would like to share to help shape the final published Code of Fundraising Practice. If so, please take part in the consultation by the closing date of 21st December 2010.
