For good advice on managing and supporting volunteers it is hard to beat the Volunteering England website. There are lots of relevant documents in their Good Practice Bank, but you might like to start with these:
The Institute of Fundraising's Code of Best Practice for Volunteer Fundraising, looks at good practice in the management of volunteer fundraisers.
The volresource.org website also gives advice on managing volunteers.
If you want to read up on the subject, the CSV has a comprehensive bookshop online, as does Volunteering England.
