Sleepovers: Introduction

Woman AsleepNot enough hours in the day to fit in your next fundraising event? Try organising one that takes place at night! Sponsored sleepovers (or "sleep-outs") are becoming increasingly popular as a fundraising idea - so much so that there's even a section in the Guinness Book of World Records devoted to the biggest. The current record holder is Save the Children, whose Giant Sleepover in June 2008 involved more than 40,000 children at 1,200 venues both indoors and out, raising hundreds of thousands of pounds in the process.

But sleepovers don't always have to be on a grand scale to work well as a sponsored event - and they don't always have to involve children, camping, or even cocoa and slippers. Ever considered spending the night in a haunted house, challenging your boss to sleep in the office or hosting a themed pyjama party? Midnight feasts are optional…
