Raffles at events: Introduction

You don't need a licence for raffles held at fundraising events, check our guide to find out more.

Created: 17 December 2007

Raffles are very easy to run and organise. They are a simple way of accumulating extra funds within larger fundraising events.

This guide is for raffles run at events and will lead you through the basic steps of running a raffle designed to be held within a larger fundraising event, such as a quiz or bingo night.

This type of raffle is straightforward to run, but other types of raffle (which are not run as a side activity at an event) are governed by different legislation, so please check the guide relevant to your type of raffle.

Keep your tickets at a reasonable price and try to obtain as many prizes as possible. The prizes don't have to be of a particularly high value - you don't want them to outshine prizes for your main event - plus people just love the chance to win something for paying out very little.

Attempt to obtain your prizes for free to make the money really add up!
